"Metal Dectectorist"
Looking for treasure with a metal detector has a long history.
But, with the onslaught of technology, the art form fell out of style. Recent shows like the one shown here, "The Detectorists," (BTW, Andy and I agree that this is possibly the best show ever!), youtube channels (including the Nugget Noggin from Charlotte) and a push by celebrities (Drew Barrymore gives detectors away on her show) have brought the the treasure hunt back into focus across all demographics.
The Renaissance in Florence was documented by scholars scribes and artists. At the heart, was Vespasiano da Bisticci. Born 1422, he was called then and now, "the king of the world's booksellers." At a time when books were made by hand, Vespasiano produced hundreds of volumes from his bookshop.
The "Wicked Emperor" in the book below is Nero. Falsh forward to last week.
"The Arch of Nero" by Thomas Cole sold for $15 million at a Sotheby's auction.
Book Review: A few weeks back, Ciao Asheville suggested "A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" by Emma Southon.
Goodbye our Friend.
Brett came to North Carolina from the restaurant world in Los Angeles and chose to spend a year and a half with us @MetroWines. But it seems that all good things must end and so it is time for Brett to use his years of experience and pursue his goals in the wine and hospitality industry. He will be joining the Leo's House of Thirst team in West Asheville and we all wish him the best and hope we will see him often @MetroWines.
Sail on Brett! Asheville is fortunate to have you here.
Aromas of nectarine, tangerine, lime zest and elderflower lead to a medium-bodied palate of fresh flavors of green apple, lychee, honeydew and pineapple. Wine shows balance between fruit flavors, refreshing acidity and a crisp, lingering finish. Drink this dry white wine as an aperitif or with a variety of food pairings from salads to seafood including salmon, oysters, crab and chowder, and Asian and Thai influenced dishes.
Wine Enthusiast 90 Points
