Asheville Shopping Guide

1. Horse + Hero

Horse + Hero is home to an eclectic collection of art, crafts, design pieces, and other gifts. They specialize in neo Appalachian art and craft that is design-minded, worldly, and anchored in the craftways and culture of our southern Appalachian highlands, housed in an original art deco shop.

2. Pollen Coffee and Flower Shop

Love flowers? What about coffee? Pollen is a coffee and flower shop concept that offers a contemporary multi-roaster cafe alongside a high-end modern flower shop. This marriage of two totally different types of businesses is brought together by a beautifully designed space on French Broad Ave.

3. Malaprops

Located at 55 Haywood Street is Malaprops Bookstore and Cafe. Malaprops is an independent bookstore that brings together books, writers, and readers at the confluence of an environment that fosters the joy of reading.

The love of books inspired founder Emoke B’Racz to open the shop in 1982. Because of the abandoned state of downtown, they were able to open up and invest in a wide variety of inventory, and open up a basement cafe. Today, Malaprops is an Asheville staple, with great baristas and stacks of books from authors around the world and around the corner.

4. Asheville Bee Charmer

With two locations in the city, Asheville Bee Charmer is a woman-owned honey shop focused on the art of craft honey. They sell dozens of different types of honey throughout the year, as well as bee-related gifts and candies. A unique feature of Asheville Bee Charmer is its unique honey-tasting bar, where you can learn about the different varieties of honey, and enjoy samples along the way.

5. Mast General Store

A staple of western North Carolina, Mast General Store has been around for a long time. The business originated in the small mountain town of Valle Crucis, NC, in the 1850s and has evolved over time into the enterprise that it has become today.

You can find just about anything you could ever need for a life in the mountains. From top-quality outdoor gear to their legendary collection of old-fashioned candies, they have just about everything.

6. The Grove Arcade

The Grove Arcade opened up in 1929 and was built as an early version of a shopping mall. In its current iteration, it is chock full of local businesses and restaurants, as well as the renowned Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne bar. No visit is complete without a trip to “Asheville’s Original Shopping Mall.”
