In Montbrun des Corbiéres lies the certified organic vineyards
of Château Vieux Moulin, run by Alexandre They and his wife Laurence.
Alexandre is the seventh generation of his family to lead the estate,
which is over 200 years old, having taken over from his father in 1998.
Their wines are made under the Corbiéres appellation in Languedoc.
Alexandre and Laurence farm thier 28 hectares organically, preserving
the biodiversity and respecting the cycles and systems of nature.
All thier wines are fermented with native yeasts and minimal intervetion.
The Vox Dei is a blend of 35% Syrah, 35% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache
and 10% Carignan from vines that average 45 years of age grown
in clay-limestone soils with schist. Grapes are destemmed
and whole-berry fermented in cement vats, aged for 1 year in barrel.
The wine shows great concentration of dark fruits, spice
and herbal flavors with wonderful depth, yet fresh.
Andy Hale LOVES this wine. He says:
"Vox Dei is saddle leather, plums, blueberries, blackberries. Powerful!
Basically, imagine the taste if you were picking plums wearing nice black leather gloves and you pulled the gloves off with your teeth.
This not a BIG Red but very close."
The 2017 is $22
