"The Offering" from Sans Liege

From Santa Barbara County, Sans Liege is always quality.

This blend of 48% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 17% Mourvedre and 1% Viognier is from highly regarded winemaker Curt Schlachlin of Sans Liege.  He says: "More dream than plan, The Offering began with days spent in the vines, late nights in the cellar, and thoughts on redemption. My prized cuvee from seven hand-picked sites, The Offering opens a window into my mutual respect for time-honored practices and fixation with whatever lies around the bend."

Tasting Notes:   A multi-layered mélange of warm blackberry, cherry, and cinnamon notes, as well as earthy pepper and cassis, this wine shows brilliant flavor and concentration. Coco powder, dried orange peel, and pipe tobacco meet exotic spices and lava rock in a long, mineral-laden finish.

Sans Liege is my relentless search for independence.  Equally aligned with the freedoms of the New World and the heritage of the Rhone Valley, I am careful not to hold too closely to either.  Instead I trust an intuition of the microcosms of each vineyard site and vine to guide my work through each vintage.  Tending fruit in vineyards that have captured my heart from Paso Robles down to Solvang, these sites speak for me and I for them; the only partners now on this path I tread.
