June 23-30, 2017

Friday, June 23

  • Arrival in Saumur & Mayor Marchand’s welcome reception
  • Dinner on your own

Saturday, June 24          

  • Anjou Vélo Vintage bicycle/wine festival (complimentary participation offered by the Mayor’s office)
  • Lunch & Dinner on your own

Sunday, June 25

  • Anjou Vélo Vintage bicycle/wine festival (complimentary participation offered by the Mayor’s office) & Lunch for participants
  • Dinner on your own

Monday, June 26-A Day in Saumur


  • Meeting w/Mayor Marchand
  • A guided tour on foot of town, its ramparts, and 16th-17th c. homes linked to the founding father, Duplessis-Mornay
  • A guided tour of the Château de Saumur- dating to the 13th century, this site bears witness to the former Dukes of Anjou. Today, it offers stunning, panoramic views of town and a rich decorative arts collection

            12:30              3-course lunch w/ wine at the restaurant l’Orangerie (in the                            courtyard of the Château de Saumur)

            3:00   “Saumur-Loire” pleasure boat ride on the Loire to marvel at local flora and fauna, all while tasting local delicacies   

After 4:00   Free time & dinner on your own

Tuesday, June 27—Day trip to Touraine

            9:00   Depart for the Château de Chinon, 14th-15th. C.

            12:30            3-Course lunch chez L’Echo des Rabelais in Chinon

            3:15   Château des Jardins de Villandry, 16th C.

            7:00   Return to Saumur & Dinner on your own

Wednesday, June 28—Wine Day

            9:30-6pm  Thomas Meunier, originally from Saumur and N.C.             resident who imports wines to the U.S., will guide us on a personal          tour of Loire Valley Vineyards: Château de Villeneuve, les Caves de   Grenelles/le Château de la Durandière. Transportation provided.

            7:00   Return to Saumur & Dinner on your own

Thursday, June 29

            9:30  Visit to Le Cadre Noir, French national equestrian school

            12h30           Farewell lunch at La Table des Fouées, St. Hilaire

                                    St. Florent

            Afternoon and evening free.

Friday, June 30   Depart Saumur, Frace.
