About: "France on the Floor"
Join us for the unveiling of an original painting, "France on the Floor," together with a French Wine "on the taste" and "on the house" @MetroWines on Friday, February 3rd from 5 to 6:30.
The result of an accident, the painting which is literally on the floor, has brought history, humor and permanent art to MetroWines.
A bottle of red wine fell to the floor, broke, and created a stain. Shortly after the incident, Chestnut's Vanessa Scully walked in, saw the stain, and said: "That looks like Sardegna!" It did. But within the hour, oddly enough, another bottle was spilled in the same spot increasing the size of the stain and making it more closely resemble France.
MetroWines was faced with two choices: either call in a carpet cleaner and wait for yet another stain or think outside the wine box! "We saw this as an opportunity to bring a little history and art into the shop," says co-owner Gina Trippi. "So we
called Roxane Clement, a decorative painter, to assess the situation."
Roxane began the process of turning a stain into "France on the Floor." "You can transform anything with paint." says Roxane. A graduate of the AB Tech Decorative Restoration Program, Roxane also taught decorative painting after completing the course.
The project has been enormously popular with customers and MetroWines plans to continue the carpet culture. "We have a spot that looks just like Italy." says Gina Trippi. "Paging Roxane!"
