Total Wine Etiquette Manners Part 1 PartiesAttending a wine-centric party can be a fun and memorable experience for all. Whether you’re an experienced connoisseur of fine wines or a novice enthusiast, there’s something for everyone at a wine-focused gathering.

But what’s often overlooked is the wine etiquette one should follow when attending such events. After all, nobody wants to look like a novice while they’re at a party that’s full of seasoned sommeliers.

At Metro Wines, we believe that every party should be a pleasant experience for everyone involved. With that in mind, here are our top four tips for making sure your next time at a wine-centered party is both enjoyable and etiquette-approved.

Total Wine Etiquette: Attending a Wine Party

1. Hold your glass by the stem, not the bowl.

If you're holding your wine glass by the bowl, not only do you run the risk of having your hand's body heat change the wine's temperature, but it can also be seen as impolite to other guests. Instead, grab the stem of your glass and get to sipping!

2. When making your toast, do so without gulping down the contents of your glass.

This might seem like a minor detail, but toasting with a full glass can often lead to spills, or you could even come off as not being in control of yourself. Instead, take a sip before toasting, and your hosts will be more appreciative.

3. Pay attention to which type of wine glass is used for each wine you try.

Not only can a wine glass enhance the aroma of the beverage, but having the correct glass can also show respect for the beverage and host. Make sure to use the proper wine glasses for each type of wine.

4. Before serving, always make sure the bottle is correctly opened.

A correctly opened bottle not only reduces the risk of accidental spills but can also save embarrassment for you and your host. Check to make sure the bottle has been correctly opened, with the cork on the ground or a foil cutter being used to remove the top.

Adhering to the wine etiquette tips outlined above will help ensure you have an enjoyable experience at your next wine-focused event. The key is to be respectful and observant and make sure to remember these four essential rules. Cheers to good wine and great manners!
