what to do inside during winter ashevilleAsheville is often known for its great access to outdoor recreation. The Blue Ridge Parkway hosts a variety of day trips with everything from quick excursions to overlooks to big-mile, multi-day backpacking experiences.

However, with winter fast approaching, many are looking for ways to enjoy their time indoors. There are plenty of incredible indoor activities to do in Asheville, whether you are a local or a tourist. As locals, we put together this list of four things to do indoors during your time in Asheville.

What to Do Indoors in Asheville During Winter

1. Battery Park Book Exchange

Warm up to a book and a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the historic Grove Arcade. Battery Park Book Exchange is home to thousands of new and used books with just about every genre available. Their specialty is books about North Carolina, American and Southern History, and the Civil War.

They have a variety of events, such as live music, readings, and other types of parties. You can also reserve one of the tables throughout the space for meetings or to read a book with one of their craft cocktails named after famous authors.

2. Catch a Show

Asheville is home to plenty of music venues, ranging from small rooms to massive auditoriums. You could just about throw a rock in any direction and hit a concert of some sort. The Orange Peel is probably the most well-known in the city. Featuring everything from local DJs to national acts, there is something for everybody at the Orange Peel. In addition to the Orange Peel, you can catch a show at:

  • Thomas Wolfe Auditorium
  • Rabbit Rabbit
  • Harrah's Cherokee Center
  • Isis Music Hall
  • The Gray Eagle
  • Asheville Music Hall

3. Visit Biltmore in Winter

Any wintertime trip to Asheville should include an excursion to the Biltmore Estate. Biltmore is famous for its grand estate built by George and Edith Vanderbilt. It is one of the most popular things to do in Asheville.

During the Christmas Season, Biltmore transforms into a winter wonderland with extravagant holiday decorations, massive Christmas trees, and several special events. One such event is the Candlelight Christmas Evenings, when the house’s fireplaces, candles, and Christmas lights are all alight throughout the home.

4. Enjoy a Wine Tasting at Metro Wines
