World Verdejo Day

World Verdejo day which was held last week was a chance to spread the “notoriety “ of DO Rueda, and to better inform consumers on the quality of the wines from the region, according to managing director Santiago Mora.

Shop Balnea Verdejo @MetroWines $12.99

From Vinex:  “Verdejo day has become more and more important,” he claimed. The event, which first took place in 2013 in four cities in the US, had grown, within five years, to become an international celebration of the Verdejo grape led by DO Ruedea in tandem with the Ribera de Duero DO.

Another 5 Star Review

Great selection of wine from around the world. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I enjoy rather unusual wines like wine from Sicily, and reds that can be served chilled in the summertime. They had some in stock and the recommendations they made were very good. (NG)

5 Star Review!

Another 5 Star Review for Kristen, Wedding Coordinator @MetroWines:

Kristen and Metro Wines were absolutely wonderful assisting us in selecting wines and beer for our rehearsal dinner and wedding in May 2022. We are Asheville natives and have been patrons of Metro for many years - they are simply the best! Kristen was lovely to work with! She has extensive experience in the wedding industry and was able to make several recommendations to us beyond wine. She provided us with wines to taste which paired with our rehearsal and reception menus and we had a lot of fun sampling the wines! Metro delivered the wines/beers for both events and the logistics were seamless. I highly recommend using Kristen and Metro Wines for your wedding/events. It was easy, tasty and they made the wine selection totally effortless which is what everyone needs when planning a wedding. Thank you, Kristen and Metro!

Grand Re-Opening in MountainX!

From MountainX, Wednesday, May 11th by Kay West:

Aging in place

On Feb. 15, MetroWines closed its flagship store on Charlotte Street to walk-in customers, as renovations were underway to restore the small building to its century-old bones. (The shop continued to accept online orders and offer curbside pickup throughout the process.) “We took off all the drywall to expose the original brick and removed the drop ceiling to reveal the original tin ceiling,” says store manager Zach Eidson. “That added about two feet of height and really brightened things up.”

When the store opened to the public again on April 22, customers saw not only the refurbished old but also some new additions, including flooring, racks and lighting.

What has not changed, assures Eidson, is the layout. “Regular customers walk in and are blown away by the look, but glad to see their favorite wines in the same places.”

On Saturday, May 14, 1-5 p.m., MetroWines will celebrate its official grand reopening with a tasting of DAOU Vineyards wines, paired with small bites by chef Sam Etheridge.

Bubbles at The Bar

Please join us on Tuesday, June 14th, for a tasting of four everyday sparkling wines with Josh Austin, Freedom Beverage Company, "on the house" @MetroWines, 169 Charlotte Street in Asheville.
"We want customers to become more familiar with sparkling wines," says Gina Trippi, co-owner of MetroWines. "Sparkling wine is not just for celebrations! Sommeliers tell us that there is hardly a food that does not pair with sparkling wine and sparkling wine really over-delivers for its price."

Sneak Peak with Donati

News Release: Monday, March 21, 2022

About: Sneak Peak with Donati at Newly Renovated MetroWines

Join us on Friday, May 6th from 5:00 to 6:30 for a wine tasting with Adam Chesia of Donati Family Vineyard and Juniper Cooper of Johnson Brothers /Mutual Distribution to celebrate the renovation of MetroWines on Charlotte Street. MetroWines continues to offer Sisters Forever Chardonnay, Claret and Cabernet Sauvignon from Donati Family Vineyard and the popularity and customer support for these wines has never stopped!

Since opening the doors in 2013, MetroWines has held to the philosophy that wine is about food, family, friends and community. "Over the years, we have become friends and family with our customers and sought to benefit the community through service, employment and support," says John Kerr, co-owner of MetroWines. "But that's not all of the story!"

MetroWines has also established strong relationships with wineries. The retailer sits in the middle of the process selecting wines from various wineries for their customers. "So, to celebrate this new beginning made possible by our customers, we have asked Adam Chesia, East Coast Sales Manager for Donati Family Vineyard, to join us, to pour their wines, to tell their family story."

"And it's not just about buying and selling," says Kerr. "When COVID struck, Donati sent us a case of hand sanitizers! Now that's family."

Family owned since 1989, Donati tells an American Wine Story from its founding by Italian immigrants through to being one of the first wineries with national distribution to trust their business to women winemakers!
