Italy off the Beaten Path: Abruzzo
Tuesday, 10 January 2023 17:58 Ciao Asheville, Metro Wines, and Saluda Sister Cities team up for an evening with Massimo Criscio and Dino Paganelli from the Palazzo Tour d’Eau in Carunchio, Abruzzo, Italy. This event will take place on Thursday, February 9th, 2023, at Engaged Asheville, 41 N Merrimon Ave #107, from 5:00-6:30pm.
Learn about the food, wine, culture, and travel opportunities in the region of Abruzzo. Massimo and Dino will also demonstrate a black truffle risotto typical of the region (and you'll get a taste!) and Metro Wines will be offering a glass of sparkling wine, plus a glass of red or white Abruzzese wine to celebrate the evening.
Joining us will be Judy Thompson from the Saluda Sister Cities program who will talk about the vacation and culinary opportunities available at the lovely Palazzo and organized through Saluda Sister Cities.
This is a great opportunity to find out more about this lovely and less traveled region of Italy. Located in the Province of Chieti, Region of Abruzzo, the village of Carunchio is east of Rome, across Italy, 35 minutes from the Adriatic, perched on the point of a chocolate-drop-shaped hill. Carunchio dates from 1000 AD and is listed as one of the “100 Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.” Saluda, NC, and Carunchio, Italy were joined as Sister Cities in 2015. The towns have amazing similarities….approximately the same population numbers and dynamics, same altitude, and same latitude.
The price for the evening is $30 + tax (refundable up until 48 hours prior to the event), which includes a glass of sparkling wine, your choice of a glass of white or red wine, risotto tasting, and a discussion with Massimo and Dino. Space is limited so please register early. For more information call Metro Wines at (828) 575-9525.
