Congratulation to Cindy Walton on being the WNCAP "Signature Piece" Winner.
The Western North Carolina AIDS Project has selected Cindy Walton, a River Arts District painter, as its 2015 Raise Your Hand Signature Piece artist.
“In Flight,” the winning composition, is a 36-inch by 36-inch oil and cold wax abstract painting in vivid oranges and blues.
WNCAP will auction the painting, along with other award winners and donated works, at its annual Raise Your Hand fundraising auction, dinner and gala on Sept. 26 at the Asheville Event Center. Tickets are $125 and go on sale July 1.
Walton was selected for the honor at a meeting of the jurors on June 12. Walton works out of Wedge Studios, painting and teaching workshops, and she also teaches at the Ghost Ranch, in Abiquiu, New Mexico, where Georgia O’Keeffe first came to the state.
Mark Henry won the prize for first runner-up for his framed oil on panel “Cregg Farms, SC,” and Linda McCane Gritta took second runner-up for her acrylic and mixed media on canvas titled “State of Wonder III.”
The art auction will raise money for WNCAP, which provides HIV/AIDS education and prevention services throughout WNC as part of the effort to fight the high rate of new infections in the Southeast and to help those battling the illness.
“Our client services have expanded over the years due to the additional needs of our clients for housing assistance, medications, food deliveries and day-to-day support to help them live healthier and more productive lives,” said Pam Siekman of WNCAP. “More than ever, we are hoping to exceed all financial goals this year.”
Those attending the auction can bid on dinner packages, antique collections, fine wines, vacations and local art. The dinner for the event will be catered by Strada Italiano.
